  • National Day of Prayer
    7:54 PM pm
    May 5, 2022

National Day of Prayer is an annual holiday that serves to encourage Americans to pray, meditate and repent. It is also used to draw awareness to prayer and religious beliefs.

The origins of National Day of Prayer date back to 1787 when Benjamin Franklin asked President George Washington to open each day with prayer and to realize that prayer is deeply intertwined in the fabric of the United States. It was not until February 1952 however, that Reverend Billy Graham petitioned support of Representative Percy Priest to observe a national day of prayer. On April 17, 1952, President Harry Truman signed a bill proclaiming National Day of Prayer, to encourage Americans to turn to God in prayer and meditation. National Prayer Day is celebrated every year on the first Thursday of May.

  • Mother’s Day
    All day
    May 8, 2022

Mother’s Day seeks to honor and recognize the sacrifices and accomplishments of mothers. Mothers are recognized by family and friends regardless of whether they are biological or perceived maternal figures. This day offers sons, daughters, and anyone with a mother the chance to show their appreciation. Mothers are typically thanked with cards and flowers, breakfast in bed, or by agreeing to do all the household chores.

Mother’s Day was established in 1914 by US President Woodrow Wilson.

  • Armed Forces Day
    All day
    May 21, 2022

Armed Forces Day is a day to recognize members of the Armed Forces that are currently serving. In 1947, the Armed Forces of the US were united under one department which was renamed the Department of Defense in 1949. President Harry S. Truman supported the creation of a day for the nation to unite in support and recognition of our military members and their families. On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced that Armed Forces Day would take the place of other individual branch celebrations, and all branches of the military would be honored this single day. Armed Forces Day is observed annually on the third Saturday in May.
